En route, you stop at Yapahuwa ancient city (a 300 foot fortified wonder dating back to the 13th century) and explore the area. The ancient city of Anuradhapura will be explored where you will get to observe several historical remains. This sacred city was established around a cutting from the 'tree of enlightenment', the Buddha's fig tree, brought there in the 3rd century B.C. by Sanghamitta, the founder of an order of Buddhist nuns. Anuradhapura, a Ceylonese political and religious capital that flourished for 1,300 years, was abandoned after an invasion in 993. Hidden away in dense jungle for many years, the splendid site, with its palaces, monasteries and monuments, is now accessible once again. The ruins of Anuradhapura are one of South Asia’s most evocative sights. The sprawling complex contains a rich collection of archaeological and architectural wonders: enormous dagobas (brick stupas), ancient pools and crumbling temples, built during Anuradhapura’s thousand years of rule over Sri Lanka. Today, several of the sites remain in use as holy places and temples; frequent ceremonies give Anuradhapura a vibrancy that’s a sharp contrast to the museum-like ambience at Polonnaruwa. Later in the day you will visit the Mihintale Buddhist Temple and head back to your hotel for the night. Proceed to check-in at the hotel. Dinner & Overnight stay at in Anuradhapura Sigiriya to Anuradhapura – 74 KM (1h 30 mints)

Kings ruled the central plains of Sri Lanka from Polonnaruwa 800 years ago, when it was a thriving commercial and religious centre. The glories of that age can be found in the archaeological treasures that still give a pretty good idea of how the city looked in its heyday. You'll find the archaeological park a delight to explore, with hundreds of ancient structures – tombs and temples, statues and stupas – in a compact core. The Quadrangle alone is worth the trip. Rest of day leisure. Dinner & Overnight stay at in Anuradhapura Anuradhapura to Polonnaruwa – 104 KM (2h 10 mints)
